Night Sights and Sounds in the Arboretum

Tue, May 7, 2024 • 8:00pm - 10:00pm (2h) • Cowling Arboretum

Join Arboretum Director Nancy Braker and Astronomer Joel Weisberg for an Arb Walk Under the Twilight and stars and learn about light pollution. This trip is limited to 20 participants.

The evening will begin with watching the sunset and an orientation to the Arboretum.  As we leave campus, examples of good and bad lighting will be pointed out. Participants will learn about what can be heard at night in the spring - frogs, owls and other birds. We will visit several locations in the Arb, listening for these sounds and looking up at the beautiful spring stars while Weisberg tells his (fractured) versions of the ancient constellation stories. While we anticipate to be in the Arb until 10:00 p.m., you will be free to depart earlier if you wish.

Clouds would merit a rescheduled date later in the week.  Please register so that we can update you on any re-scheduling. We will send you information about where to meet and what to bring with you the day of the walk.
